Peace to you!

After attending Oxford and Harvard and working in investment banking, I had a spiritual experience that led me to leave the path of success to live in monasteries for over 7 years.

Through this newsletter, I share practical wisdom from my experience in the monastery. I hope it’s fruitful for your journey!

Each week, the Monk Mindset newsletter comes with:

Show Up and Receive the Light: Meditation and Prayer

Reflection on the Monk Mindset and Quote

There’s a tendency to think that prayer or meditation is hard. That it's inaccessible or won’t really make a difference in our lives. We kinda feel like we should do it and we’d be better for it. But in the midst of our crazy days, it sometimes feels just too distant.

St. Therese, a French nun who lived in the closed walls of a hidden convent in a small town and died in her early 20s, reminds us here that, to the contrary, prayer is primarily just a simple movement of the heart.

Prayer can happen in the midst of our busy day, in the midst of our challenges and our joys. Prayer is always accessible simply by turning our gaze inward or upward to God who dwells within and surrounds us with His light.

Put It Into Practice This Week

While it’s fresh, take just 10 seconds right now and close your eyes. Turn your interior gaze within and trust that you will be renewed and rekindled through contact with God who’s waiting there for you.

This week, try to take just moments during the day to pause and lift your heart to God and trust that He will renew you. Trust that even a few seconds can transform you when you’re bathed in Light.

Wishing you abundant peace this week,

John
