Be Transformed into Fire

Learn Monastic Approaches to meditation & prayer in new Mini-Course - details below! ⬇️

Peace to you!

After attending Oxford and Harvard and working in investment banking, I had a spiritual experience that led me to leave the path of success to live in monasteries for over 7 years.

Through this newsletter, I share practical wisdom from my experience in the monastery. I hope it’s fruitful for your journey!

Each week, the Monk Mindset newsletter comes with:

Monk Mindset for Living Well

Show Up and Receive the Light: Meditation & Prayer

Reflection on the Monk Mindset and Quote

In the 5th century Egyptian desert, Abba Lot came to Abba Joseph and said:

“Father, according as I am able, I keep my little rule, and my little fast, my prayer, meditation and contemplative silence; and, according as I am able, I strive to cleanse my heart of thoughts: now what more should I do?”

The elder rose up in reply and stretched out his hands to heaven and said: “Why not become fire?”

As he said this, Abba Joseph’s fingers became like ten lamps of fire shooting flames.

This is a great secret and mystery. We can all be transformed into fire. To glow with the divine light so powerfully that it warms and inspires everyone we come in contact with.

Put It Into Practice This Week

Close your eyes and ask to be transformed into fire. Feel the light sink into you.

Consider bringing this into your prayer: asking to be set ablaze with “a living flame of love”. To be a burning furnace of light for others.

It’s so hard building prayer and meditation routines into the day.

So I created a mini-course based on my 7+ years in the monastery and coaching hundreds of founders & CEOs to walk step-by-step through how monks and nuns go deep in prayer and meditation.

It also includes very practical guidance for how to implement these approaches in your life. Would be honored for you to check it out!

Wishing you abundant peace this week,

John
